Missouri Reading First Program Evaluation Team (August, 2007 - December, 2008)
The Missouri Reading First evaluation design provides critical information for the effective implementation of Missouri Reading First at state and local levels.
Three standardized measures of reading were analyzed. They are: the Missouri Assessment Program (MAP), the TerraNova, and the Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills (DIBELS). Student performance is compared across these measures.

- Mentor students in game design process, such as narrative (storyline), flow chart (decision making), and content research on renewable energy
- Assist students in using the game engine (interface design and programming)
- Develop an online education platform using Blackboard Learning+ to facilitate social support and peer collaboration between students from different schools
- Create a website to centralize all resources related the the student-designed Serious Educational Games and their alignment with Virginia Standards Of Learning (SOLs) - website link
- Collect data on-site and online, conduct interviews
Summer Workshops for high school students in North Carolina (2009, 2010)
- Assist students in using the Video Game design software, building a three-dimensional multi-level virtual worlds and environments on STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) subjects.
- Mentor students in flow chart design and writing narratives
- Create a MOODLE online education platform for students, teachers, and university teams
FIBR-Funded Science Teacher Professional Development Workshop (2011) - Details about the workshop
- Develop online survey questions for past participants to evaluate their overall experience of the previous years' teacher professional development workshops
- Analyze the data and write a report to inform practice of changes for Santa Fe Institute
- Participate in the summer 2011 workshop at George Mason University
- Evaluate the summer 2011 workshop via survey and observation, and submit report to Santa Fe Institute for future improvement
Missouri Reading First Program Evaluation Team (August, 2007 - December, 2008)
The Missouri Reading First evaluation design provides critical information for the effective implementation of Missouri Reading First at state and local levels.
Three standardized measures of reading were analyzed. They are: the Missouri Assessment Program (MAP), the TerraNova, and the Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills (DIBELS). Student performance is compared across these measures.
- Assist in data merging and data treatment for 69 Missouri school districts, including 115 buildings, and approximately 21,691 students in kindergarten through third grade.
- Conduct data analysis through statistical software SPSS and prepare meaningful statistical tables and charts for the End of Year Reports.
