About
Rebecca Cheng, Ph.D. is a learning scientist, cognitive psychologist, interaction designer (IxD), and a Serious Educational Games (SEGs) researcher and received her Ph.D. in Education (Cognitive Psychology & Learning Sciences in STEM*) from George Mason University, Fairfax, VA. She is interested in studying positive emotions and the psychological and physiological dimensions of Flow (personal perceived optimal experience) in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), interface design, and game-based learning.
Before moving back to Hong Kong in 2015, she was the associate scientist for the National Ecological Observatory Network (NEON) in Boulder, CO and dedicated to improve online learners/users’ engagement and empower everyone to discover their passion for science. Rebecca involved in the User Experience/User Interface (UX/UI) design for a Crowd Science program on plant phenology with Harvard University and the Zooniverse, as well as the education aspect of the PhenoCam project. Who am I?
I am a system thinker with good pattern recognition skills, and extremely curious about how people perceive, think, feel, act, and learn when interacting with various contexts (both physical and digital). p.s. It also applies to studying any life forms and ecosystems - as I am an ecologist too!
I am also a problem-solver and constantly reflect critically on learning experiences and processes. I love all kinds of challenge; and think as a user, designer, and researcher when encountering new problems. I prefer to think creatively and make the impossible possible (ok, I am aware of the real world limits!). I enjoy listening to new and diverse perspectives. I like working alone as well as working in a group. I believe the power of teamwork and those synergy fuels the creative process and maximizes creative efforts, and ultimately makes tangible and useful contribution to the field. Innovation, after all, is about "seeing the world not as it is, but as it could be" (R. Martin).
My curiosity, system engineering skills, and resourcefulness prepare me to process on the fly and make quick, accurate decisions!
